January is National Blood Donor Month. If you are eligible to give blood now is a great time to do it. Some interesting facts about blood include:

  • More than 4.5 million patients need blood transfusions in the U.S. and Canada each year
  • Blood cannot be manufactured
  • An estimated 38% of the US population is eligible to donate but less than 10% do each year
  • One donation can save the lives of up to 3 people

There are several donation drives in Kirkwood during the month of January including one at North Kirkwood Middle School on January 17th from 10am-6pm. Find one near you either through American Red Cross or Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center.
