Friday, January 20, 9:00 a.m.:  It’s FRIDAY!!  And that means it’s our first official Biggest Loser weigh-in.  If you’re not familiar with what we at City Hall are doing, please see the WKT story below (Jan 13 post).  The good news is that almost everybody has lost weight this first week.  Personally, I lost 3.7 pounds (although I don’t expect to do that well every week).  There is a lot of excitement in the office this morning, as there was yesterday when KSDK Channel 5 reporter Heidi Glaus and her crew came to City Hall and did a feature on our competition.  Webster Groves Mayor Welsh arrived while Heidi was here to “gift” Kirkwood employees with four dozen donuts from Dunkin’ Donuts.  There were still quite a few left last night, which means that their attempt to sabotage our weight loss efforts did not work!   [As I’ve been writing this, dozens of City employees have been coming in to get weighed, and they’re all leaving with smiles on their faces.  A full 1/6 of our workforce is participating.]

Big Parks & Rec News:
Beginning February 1, you will be able to register for all classes, events, and programs right from your computer.  Many months in the planning, online registration will launch right about the same time you receive your spring/summer program guides (they hit the mail on January 30).  Complete details and instructions will be printed on the BACK of the program guide.

Cold Days:  Looking for something to do on those cold weekend days in January and February?  Don’t forget Art at the Station.  The oil paintings of Art Stauder opens January 30.  Opening reception is February 2 at 5:30pm at the Kirkwood Train Station. Art is available for viewing whenever the station is open for passengers.  Another option:  On February 6, the Kirkwood Historical Society’s monthly meeting will feature a presentation on the Battle of Fort San Carlos (May 26, 1780).  Meetings are held the first Monday of the month at Mudd’s Grove, 302 W. Argonne, at 10:00 a.m.

That’s all for now – see you next week.  Have a great weekend!!
